Women’s Leadership Program in Pennsylvania
Empowerment, Growth, and Lasting Recovery
The Women’s Leadership Program at Synergy supports women who are ready to continue their recovery while building the confidence and independence to thrive in college and beyond. Designed for clients who have completed long-term treatment, whether at Synergy or through another program, this level of care provides structure, community, and guidance during the transition to everyday life.
Here, women strengthen the tools and self-awareness developed during early recovery while stepping into leadership roles within a supportive, growth-focused environment. The program helps clients balance personal wellness with their academic, professional, and social goals.
A Foundation for Confidence and Connection
For many women, returning to college or independent life can bring new pressures, such as academic expectations, social dynamics, and the responsibility of managing recovery on their own. Research shows that college environments can heighten stress and relapse risk, especially for women balancing academics and early recovery.[1] The Women’s Leadership Program gives clients the support and structure they need to handle those pressures while staying focused on recovery and building confidence in themselves.
Located in newly renovated housing near West Chester University, the program offers a community-style living environment that combines independence with consistent guidance. Clients learn to manage their routines, prioritize wellness, and continue developing life skills that sustain recovery.
A Community That Builds Each Other Up
Connection is central to the Women’s Leadership Program. Clients find encouragement and belonging among peers who share similar experiences and goals. Group sessions, mentorship opportunities, and access to 12-step programs help foster accountability, honesty, and self-confidence.
Women in the Leadership Program also have opportunities to give back—supporting new residents, sharing their stories, and modeling the strength that comes from recovery. This network of support and empowerment is what makes Synergy’s community so impactful long after treatment ends.
Academic and Personal Development
Each client receives personalized case management to align her recovery goals with her academic or professional ambitions. Case Managers assist with class planning, scheduling, and navigating campus resources. For women not yet enrolled in college, Synergy provides guidance to find the right academic or career path that complements their recovery lifestyle.
Since the program’s start, participants have maintained strong academic performance, with an average GPA of 3.23, reflecting their commitment to balance, focus, and self-growth.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Women’s Leadership Program
Who is the Women’s Leadership Program designed for?
This program is for women who have completed long-term treatment—either at Synergy or elsewhere—and are ready to take the next step toward independence. It’s ideal for college students, recent graduates, or young professionals who want continued structure and community support while living in recovery.
Do I have to be enrolled in college to join?
Not at all. While many clients are students, you don’t need to be currently enrolled to participate. Our Case Management team helps each client explore education, work, or training opportunities that align with her recovery goals. For those planning to attend college, Synergy offers guidance on selecting programs that fit both academic and personal needs.
What kind of support will I receive while in the program?
Clients receive a blend of clinical and practical support—weekly therapy and recovery check-ins, case management, mentorship, and peer connection. The environment is structured but flexible, helping women balance real-life responsibilities while maintaining consistent accountability and emotional growth.
How long do clients usually stay in the Leadership Program?
Length of stay varies based on personal goals and progress. Most clients participate for several months as they establish stability, pursue education or work, and develop confidence living independently. The program adapts as clients grow, ensuring the right level of support at every stage.
How is the Women’s Leadership Program different from the Women’s Flagship Program?
The Women’s Flagship Program offers a higher level of structure and supervision and is typically better suited for clients in the earlier stages of recovery. The Leadership Program is a next step, offering more independence while keeping a strong connection to Synergy’s therapeutic community. It helps women apply what they’ve learned in real life while continuing to grow in recovery.
